With the AB7 Rib Protector, Bengio has once again lived up to its reputation as one of the premier kart protector manufacturers. Following the widely imitated but never surpassed Bengio Bumper, which has been unmatched for over a decade, the Italian manufacturer has developed a rib protector homologated to current CIK/FIA standards in close collaboration with racers from around the world.
The AB7 not only reflects Bengio Bumper's usual high standards of safety but also its comfort. Its outer shells made of composite fibers ensure optimal rib protection during impact. The soft interior cushions the driver from minor impacts and reduces vibration transmission. Thanks to its specially selected materials, the AB7 fits snugly to the driver's chest without sacrificing stability. The circumference can be easily adjusted with a Velcro strap attached to the outer shells.
The protector's height can also be continuously adjusted to the driver using a Velcro strap. In contrast to conventional rib protectors, the AB7 offers an additional level of safety with its chest and back protection elements. Thus, in the event of a frontal impact, injury to internal organs, particularly in the chest (lungs) area, is minimized. The Bengio AB7 has had to prove its impact protection in numerous tests to obtain the mandatory homologation for rib protectors according to CIK/FIA 8870-2018 standard for all international races since 2021. This ensures that the AB7 not only provides a comfortable wearing experience but also maximum safety for the driver.
The FIA standard 8870-2018 supplements the rib protection required in the DMSB area and will replace it from 2022 onwards. The CIK/FIA 8870-2018 standard has been mandatory for international races since January 2021.
Overview:
Back protector: Tested at 100 joules
Chest protector: Tested at 60 joules
Rib protector (lateral): Tested at 100 joules
The new CIK standard requires that the peak value in an impact does not exceed 1kN (kilonewton). Tests prove that the Bengio AB7 delivers even better values than those demanded by the FIA. According to FIA 8870-2018 standard, the correct size must be selected based on the user's height and then according to the available chest circumference measurements.
